Why got this name
The name Yangtze River is derived from the name "Yangzijiang", which was the Chinese name for the river in its lower part, specifically, the section between Yangzhou city and Zhenjiang city. The namecomes from the ancient ferry crossing Yangzi Jin. Because it was the name first used by missionaries and traders, then this name was applied in English to the whole river.
In Chinese, Yangzi Jiang is considered a historical or poetic name for the river. The modern Chinese name of Yangtze River is "Chang Jiang".

Yangtze River runs from west to east through Qinghai, Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai and join in the East China sea at last.
The headwaters of the Yangtze are situated at an elevation of about 4,900 m (16,000 ft).
Between Chongqing and Yichang (I-ch'ang), Yangtze River has an altitude of 40 m (130 ft) and a distance of about 320 km (200 mi). This is the best section of Yangtze River Cruise.

Human activity was found in the Three Gorges area as far back as 27,000 years ago. Ba and Shu were located along the western part of the river in the Spring and Autumn Period.
